Haydn’s String Quartet in F minor, Op 20 No 5
Janácek’s String Quartet No 1 (Kreutzer Sonata)
Dvorák’s String Quartet in A flat, Op 105

We are delighted to welcome this young and talented quartet from Hong Kong. The Rogeri Quartet is made up of graduates of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and this is their first concert tour to Europe. They will play one of Haydn’s ‘Sun Quartets’, a landmark in the composer’s musical development, matching the burning intensity of his middle-period symphonies. Janácek’s first string quartet was completed in 1923, and is based on Tolstoy’s novel Kreutzer Sonata. Dvorák’s Quartet in A flat Op 105 is one of his last chamber works, composed after he returned from three years in America and the work of a man who is at last back home with his family and friends and firmly established in the countryside he loved all his life.
