Coffee-Time Talk: Dance to the music

Dance to the music — an exploration of this year’s festival theme.

In this illustrated lecture, music critic Stephen Pettitt, who writes for the Sunday Times and is currently Head of Music at Benslow Music Trust in Hitchin, shares his thoughts about the relationship between sound and movement. When should a waltz or a bouree be danced to, and when just listened to? Is our appreciation of the music of Daphnis et Chloë enhanced when we see it choreographed or otherwise? What does choreographing a work not originally intended for dance do to it?
